چکیده

Laser based devices are ubiquitous in many fields which has resulted an increase ocular injuries from laser exposure. Glasses for protection available but contact lenses that block certain wavelengths could be a less bulky alternative. Here, we focus on developing lens protecting eyes accidental exposure to green by incorporation of gold nanoparticles exhibit local maximum absorbance as tunable wavelength due the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect. The particles incorporated poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) because PVA offers twin benefits stabilizing during manufacturing Turkevich method and excellent biocompatibility high-water content. monodispersed desired size (11.75 ± 1.09 nm) were prepared with stabilizer. separated out anti-solvent precipitation then redispersion achieve concentration, finally crosslinked freezing-thawing cycling form loaded (PVA GoldinLens). remain well-dispersed all nanoparticle loadings (0%, 0.25%, 0.5%, 1%, 2% 4%, wt% dried lenses). transmittance spectra GoldinLenses minimum at 520 nm LSPR effect 12 nanoparticles. was reduced entire range, is typical glasses decrease more pronounced around nm. efficacy enhances particle concentration becomes relatively independent loading higher reaching value 66.7%. To further improve protection, explore alternative approach inside two commercial (Acuvue TruEye Moist) soaking precursor solution (0.25–1%, wt%) followed reduction 5% (wt%) sodium borohydride particles. This process leads formation about 100 lenses. Incorporation both superior absorption compared comparable > 90% blocking 3% (wt% lens) loading. CLINICAL SCIENCE A New System, the LipiFlow, for the Treatment of Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD)

Methods: This was a non-significant risk, prospective, open-label, randomized, crossover multicenter clinical trial. One hundred thirtynine subjects were randomized between LipiFlow (n=69) and WC control (n=70). Subjects in the LipiFlow group received a 12-minute LipiFlow treatment and were reexamined at 1 day, 2 weeks and 4 weeks. Control subjects received a 5-minute iHeat treatment with instr...

Emerging treatment options for meibomian gland dysfunction

Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) is one of the most common diseases observed in clinics; it influences a great number of people, and is the leading cause of evaporative dry eye. Given the increased recognition of the importance of MGD, a great amount of attention has been paid to therapies targeting this condition. The traditional treatments of MGD consist of warm compresses and lid hygiene fo...

Semifluorinated Alkane Eye Drops for Treatment of Dry Eye Disease Due to Meibomian Gland Disease

PURPOSE Meibomian gland disease is generally accepted as the leading cause for evaporative dry eye disease (DED). In a previous study, perfluorohexyloctane, a semifluorinated alkane, has been demonstrated to significantly increase tear film breakup time and to reduce corneal fluorescein staining in patients with evaporative DED, thereby vastly reducing dry eye-related symptoms. This study was s...
